Who Do You Say That I Am

Whether you like it or not, your answer to this question will determine your destiny. So naturally, that makes this really, really important.

"Who do you say that I am?"

If you're not a Christian, then you probably don't know where this comes from. If you are, then you probably know it's in the Bible. (Because I mean, that's always a safe guess. xD)

So let's just go ahead and take a look at the verses:

Matthew 16: 13-15 (KJV)

When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist, some Elias; and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

Did you notice how Jesus asks 'whom do men say' He is, and then how He sort of pushes that aside? Because in the end, it doesn't matter who the world says Jesus is.

What matters is who you say He is.

Was He an important political figure? Was He a prophet from God? Was He a historical figure advocating social justice and equality?

If you're not a Christian, then I want you to think on this for a second. Who is Jesus?

Who do you say that He is?

And now, if you're a Christian.

Who do you say that He is?

Your view of Jesus changes everything, whether you're a Christian or not. I think most everyone in America knows something about Jesus- but whether that something is true or not is a different story. We're used to seeing a comfortable, cozy sort of Jesus. A cute little baby wrapped in a manger.

This Christmas, I want to ask myself who Jesus is. Is He the Lord of my Life? Is He the center of Christmas? In today's commercialized, money-focused world, there's so many things to get distracted by. So many things that will take our focus away from where it belongs.

Christmas isn't about reindeer, or Santa, or getting presents. Instead, it's about God becoming flesh. It's about the Savior of the World.

Let's take a look at what I didn't show you earlier- a look at the verse following Jesus' question.

Matthew 16: 16 (KJV)

And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

And that's who Jesus is. Not a cute little baby, not a decrepit historical figure. He's the Son of God, He's alive, and He's my Savior.

But is He your Savior? Is He your King?

I want to celebrate His birth, yes, but I also want to realize that He's no longer a baby in a manger. One day, He's coming back.

Am I ready? Are you?

  8. This was such a deep post, and I loved it! You're right, this is such an important question and something that isn't often addressed. I totally forget who we're celebrating during Christmas at times, but it's all about Him, what He did, and what He's going to do. This is something I want to focus on this season, and for the rest of my life, but it is also something I want to share with others.

So my wall next to my bed is full of quotes, verses, and questions and now this is going up there too as a reminder to me that He is God and He is coming back, just as He promised.

  9. My Deliverer is coming, my Deliver is standing by....
When Yeshua comes again, He will be bringing a sword. In His love for us, His sacrifice, we find eternal LIFE. Yeshua wins the battle- will we be ready to pick up a sword and fight for Him and with the Lord? How amazing is it that Yeshua, the Creator of all, died for us so we could be with Him!
John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Yahweh is incredible and His ways are not out ways. If we love Him, obey and believe, then we will abide in His fortress. We belong to Him. That is SO INCREDIBLE! Yehovah is Sovereign, and yet, HE LOVES US.
Amen to your writing, Jonathan. Yeshua is Mighty, but He gives us power, too. Where will we be? Where are we now?
    MERRY CHRISTMAS, JONATHAN!!
